Visually Striking New Video From Sage Francis
Hip-hop's favorite bastard child outsider Sage Francis has an astonishing new video for the song "Love The Lie" off his genre-bending album Li(f)e. The song is co written by Francis and the late great Mark Linkous of the band Sparklehorse. The video, which premiered today at Guardian UK site, ingeniously utilizes stop motion effects to beautifully depict love and loss amongst some intricately rendered and undeniably soulful robots. The unique and artful clip was directed by the talented newcomer Jim Foltice.
The composition for the song was provided by the talented Linkous and subsequently recorded in the studio by Francis, the album's producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron and Wine) and cohorts Jim Becker and Tim Rutili of the band Califone. The result is an appropriately moving track that merges powerful melancholy indie rock with Francis' reflective soul searching lyrics. As Francis explains: "In the song we run through the adventures of a sick person unwilling to seek professional help as well as all the fun things that happen to children who have to juggle the realities and fallacies they've inherited from a broken home. Pick your lie and love it if it loves you back, that's what I say."
