Tinariwen's 'Tassili' Nominated For Grammy Award
Anti-Records is thrilled to congratulate celebrated North African "Touareg" band Tinariwen on a 2011 Grammy nomination for their absolutely captivating album Tassili in the Best World Music category.
On Tassili the renowned nomadic band refined their unique and hypnotic sound, recording in a safe zone of the Algerian desert with contributions by Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio and later from guitar virtuoso Nels Cline of Wilco and the horns of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
NPR said of Tassili, "Let's get one thing straight: Tinariwen is just about the best guitar-based rock band of the 21st century" while Uncut Magazine proclaimed, "Tinariwen have created an entire genre of desert blues but they remain peerless."
*The 54th Annual Grammy Awards show will take place on Sunday February 12th, 2012 and air exclusively on CBS.
Fresh off their captivating national television debut performance this week on The Colbert Report, Tinariwen along with friends and collaborators Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio performed and sat down for a conversation with Stephen Colbert.
