Prism Tats Featured On Rough Trade Charity Comp

ANTI- recording artist Prism Tats has contributed the latest song (“His Girl Now” – the first music released since the LA-based band’s stunning 2016 self-titled debut album) to Rough Trade Publishing’s Song A Day… project to benefit the Southern Poverty Law Center’s work combating hate, intolerance and discrimination through education and litigation.

Along with the track announcement, Prism Tats announced their addition to a run of shows supporting Surfer Blood this month in California:

2.4 Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown, CA
2.6 SLO Brewing Company San Luis Obispo, CA
2.14 The Catalyst Atrium Santa Cruz, CA
2.15 Strummer’s Fresno, CA
2.17 Teragram Ballroom Los Angeles, CA

Prism Tats mastermind Garett van der Spek, who grew up in South Africa and has followed recent U.S. political events with great interest, notes “[I’m] so happy to be a part of this and support the SPLC. Having grown up in South Africa, I've seen first-hand the effects of a nation divided by intolerance.”

The compilation features unreleased music from King Khan, John Vanderslice, Kevin Devine, A Place to Bury Strangers, Doe Paoro, and many more. It began at the top of this year, when RTP posted a link (bit.ly/SADrtp) to the Bandcamp-exclusive fundraiser, along with a call to action:

You know it. We know it. Even our pets know it. We're all very nervous about the state of things in 2017. 2016 was a rough year on many levels, and the post-election climate has been, well… less then ideal. That’s why we've decided to do something. The proceeds from every subscription to Rough Trade Publishing: A Song A Day Keeps The Pain Away (#sadrtp) benefits the Southern Poverty Law Center. A new song will be delivered to our loyal subscribers every day for the first 90 days of 2017. We hope everyone enjoys these tunes. We also hope they help a little with the pain, and perhaps even inspire people. We’d love it if they did. We all need to be doing whatever we can to make 2017 a better tomorrow.
