Lost In The Trees Interviewed On NPR's All Things Considered
The acclaimed musical collective Lost In The Trees have just released an emotionally evocative and sonically imaginative new album called A Church That Fits Our Needs. The band's talented singer-songwriter Ari Picker recently stopped by the studios of NPR to discuss the record's inspiration.
To stream listen to this revealing interview care of NPR, just go to All Things Considered.
The album, called "stunningly gorgeous" by the Los Angeles Times, is an ambitious and moving tribute to Picker's artist mother who committed suicide. Far from being a somber affair, the classically trained composer has utilized rhythm as its own emotional language, never losing the propulsive vitality of great rock and roll. In the illuminating NPR interview, Picker talks about processing his mother's death with art and the powerful songs on the group's new album.
"When you grow up with enough emotional obstacles, your body and your mind become adapted to that in some way -- you learn to deal with it efficiently," Picker says. "When I found out about [her death], my brain just went into creative mode."
Lost In The Trees just completed buzz generating performances at both South By Southwest and All Tomorrow's Parties UK. The group is currently touring North America in support of their critically heralded new record with Fleet Foxes members Christian Wargo's and Casey Wescott's project Poor Moon (Sub Pop) in tow.
