Kelly Hogan Releases Solo Album Today
Revered songstress Kelly Hogan will release her highly anticipated new solo album I Like To Keep Myself In Pain today, June 5th. The Georgia native is a supremely talented artist recently heralded as "a national treasure" by colleague, friend and former Chicago neighbor, Andrew Bird while acclaimed singer-songwriter M. Ward simply states, "Kelly Hogan rules."

On her enthralling new album, Hogan curates an ambitious and moving labor of love, mining the perfect intersection between classic pop, country and soul. She utilizes her incredible voice to interpret compositions penned for her by musical luminaries including Vic Chesnutt, The Magnetic Fields, The Mekons' Jon Langford, The Handsome Family, Freakwater's Catherine Irwin, John Wesley Harding, Robbie Fulks, Gabriel Roth, Robyn Hitchcock, and the aforementioned M. Ward and Andrew Bird.

She is backed on the record by an all-star group of musicians: R&B legends Booker T Jones and James Gadson (Bill Withers, Beck), as well as talented young lions Gabriel Roth (of Daptone Records, The Dap-Kings) and Hogan's long-time collaborator Scott Ligon (of the newly resurrected NRBQ).

Early Acclaim I Like To Keep Myself In Pain:

"A midcareer classic for an artist whose talents have long been appreciated but neer really captured on her own album. "I Like to Keep Myself in Pain" works as both a career summing up and a fascinating introduction to one of the most accomplished, underappreciated vocalists of the last two decades." - Chicago Tribune
" Kelly Hogan has always made smart, tasteful records. But " I Like To Keep Myself In Pain," her first studio album in 11 years, smacks of being definitive...- Washington Post

"Kelly Hogan is one of the finest and most musically astute vocalists working in American popular music... I Like to Keep Myself in Pain not only puts her in the spotlight where she belongs, it's an instant classic that's as strong as any record that she's appeared on, no small achievement given her résumé. " - Allmusic
"Kelly Hogan's voice is like the dancing flame of a torch singer nipping at the heels of a honky-tonk angel." - Creative Loafing

"The real standouts are 'Daddy's Little Girl', in which M Ward puts her inside the head of Frank Sinatra and the Jack Pendarvis-Andrew Bird collaboration 'We Can't Have Nice Things' which places Hogan's honeysuckle voice at the intersection of country, soul and '60s pop, where this gifted song interpreter resides " - Uncut

"Hogan not only shows her vocal power and diversity, swinging from giddy '60s girl-group pop to weepy old-school country and from sultry soul to gritty rock, she proves that her biggest strength is in the lost art of interpretation, finding deeper and sometimes unexpected meanings in the tunes she sings, and making us feel every note." - Jim DeRotatis/WBEZ
