Jolie Holland To Release "Mexico City" From The Forthcoming 'The Living and the Dead'
For Immediate Release
JOLIE HOLLAND TO RELEASE "MEXICO CITY" FROM THE FORTHCOMING THE LIVING AND THE DEAD AS DIGITAL SINGLE ON SEPT 9
On September 9th, acclaimed artist Jolie Holland will release "Mexico City" as a digital single. The track, the first single off her upcoming the Living and the Dead (out October 7), highlights Jolie's unique voice and evocative songwriting, while conjuring images of Jack and Edie Kerouac's adventures in the wild west of 1950's Mexico. "Mexico City" will be available on iTunes and Amazon.
Early praise for the Living and the Dead is hailing Jolie's fourth release as arguably her best yet:
Paste Magazine
"Texan Jolie Holland writes songs packed like retablos with autobiographical details and Dia de los Muertos figures, but it's her voice that animates them. She slurs her words and blurs her phrasing, chewing her consonants and creating a distinctively drunken drawl. Her fourth--and perhaps best--album (featuring contributions from co-producer M. Ward and guitarist Marc Ribot) foregoes the smoky speakeasy atmosphere of 2006's Springtime Can Kill You for a more contemporary roots sound, which provides a more evocative backdrop for her signature vocals."- Stephen Deusner

"The Living and the Dead serves as the latest chapter in Holland's story, and here the lady troubadour continues with a writer's knack for making every next page better than the last." - Matt Elder
Venus Magazine
"A wanderlust-friendly album that evokes scenes from a summer road trip across the back roads of America: lonely truck stops, hand-painted signs, and dilapidated barns covered in beautiful overgrowth. Jolie Holland delivers a calming salve to a harsh reality where everybody deserves love but very few ever get it." - Amanda McCorquodale
Jolie is touring in support of the Living and the Dead starting October 12 in the border town of San Diego CA, continuing across the country to end in New York City on November 13. She will be supported by French anti-folk duo Herman Dune.
