Jolie Holland Announces North American Tour
Singer songwriter Jolie Holland is that rare performer who conveys everything in her voice. It is a stunning instrument that seems directly connected to her heart and soul. On her latest album "The Living and the Dead," Holland creates a smoky evocative work of hallucinatory Americana. In live performance Holland is absolutely transcendent. Popmatters said of a recent concert: "She's a singer who's absolutely worth seeing in a live context because she always takes chances, trying out weird phrasings, slurring words together and falling slightly out of rhythm, only to bring things back together somehow.... plenty of spine-tingling moments." Holland now prepares to embark on an extensive North America tour joined on the Southern stops by musician, actor Will Oldham (AKA Bonnie Prince Billy) who will sing backup. Seminal folk/blues rambler Michael Hurley will be opening West Coast dates with Kentucky musician and master storyteller Matt Bauer featured on the rest. Holland will be joining both Hurley and Bauer for their sets, then performing alongside supremely talented NYC guitarist Grey Gersten.
Acclaim for Holland's The Living and the Dead:
"Holland's fourth album - far and away her strongest-is flawlessly executed and fearlessly told." - Blender Magazine
"Jolie Holland's voice beguiles like something from an old 78....on The Living and the Dead, she channels the folky, sultry, blues Joni Mitchell trademarked and conjures her own stunning takes on lost lovers and sly approaches." - Elle
"positively enchanting." - LA Weekly
"Her music has a certain timelessness to it, melding the best in vocal jazz, blues, and country traditions, her voice masterfully sliding between sultry and sweet, despairing and lonely." - The Village Voice
"Jolie Holland's fourth album packs a full and commanding wallop. It's her strongest effort yet, a mini-manifesto on how to weld varied American sounds together and also fucking rock at the same time. This is the record to buy for your dad for his birthday, and then burn for yourself afterwards." - Pitchfork
