DeVotchKa Premieres "100 Other
Celebrated romantic rock band DeVotchKa are premiering a unique new song entitled "100 Other Lovers" at stereogum.com today. You can listen to the track here. The track is from the band's highly anticipated new album 100 Lovers due out March 1st via Anti-Records. The record was created in the Arizona desert under the guidance of producer Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Neko Case) with guest percussions from Mauro Refosco of Thom Yorke's band Atoms For Peace, and members of Calexico. The resulting twelve songs reveal the group at the height of the creative powers, merging an eclectic mix of sounds and styles to create an impassioned work which is distinctly DeVotchKa.
The band recently took their energetic visually stunning live show across the globe, delivering spirited performances to audiences in such diverse places as Istanbul, Belgium, and Poland. In Paris the band opened for Muse winning over a massive crowd of 90,000. DeVotchKa also earned a Grammy nomination for the Academy Award winning film "Little Miss Sunshine" while front man Nick Urata has recently composed musical scores for a number of high profile films including the comedy-crime drama "I Love You Phillip Morris" starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor.
Acclaim For DeVotchKa:
"the Nick-Urata-led quartet specializes in music that heightens the senses and stirs sentiments - a sort of new school-Old World drama of indie rock and pop songcraft dressed up in exotic-sounding Eastern European and Latin flourishes. On DeVotchKa's fifth and most romantically titled album, the band does even more than that. Following the success of the band's work on the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack, the group's musical ambitions seem to have risen right along with its profile. ...the rhythm section summons great power and precision and Urata's vibrato sweeps in Orbison-esque arcs. When it all comes together, the effect is exhilarating." - RELIX MAGAZINE
"The Denver-based band mixes Slavic and Gypsy music, mariachi, rock punk and a kitchen sink's worth of influences in its joyous, just-short-of-over-the-top mélange, finding use for an accordion, washboard and tuba as well as Nick Urata's voice and guitar. It's one of those bands you wish you could see for the first time again, just to re-experience the happy shock of discovering music so inventive and well served." - THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
