Xenia Rubinos Releases Collaboration With Sammus & Olga Bell
In their most recent review of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Xenia Rubinos, Pitchfork called the genre blending Brooklynite “a unique presence with a sharp ability to make pressing issues about identity and society into funky, exhilarating music.”
Now Rubinos is flexing her studio muscles in a brand new collaborative track. Spurred by an invitation from Tune-yards’ Merrill Garbus to collaborate with other female artists for Garbus’ Red Bull radio show C.L.A.W, a monthly guide to new music by female-identifying artists.
“Levitating” is the first work from the almost unfairly gifted trio of Xenia Rubinos, Olga Bell and Sammus. Over a sultry Olga Bell instrumental, MC Sammus reflects on the privileges and responsibilities that come with being part of a progressive movement before the beat switches up mid-track and Xenia responds bilingually with her own rhyme. The joy is palpable.
