The Melodic's Anti- Debut Album "Effra Parade" Out Today

The new album Effra Parade by Brixton band The Melodic arrives in stores today. It is the full length Anti- debut from the group whose infectious merging of folk, world beat and pop is already generating critical praise. No Depression recently described the band's sound as “filled with globe-bouncing catchiness, young spirited harmonies, and melodically whimsical rhythms” while The Atlantic City Weekly writes "saluting English ’60s folk heroes such as Bert Jansch, the Incredible String Band, Vashti Bunyan, Fairport Convention and Nick Drake while taking the baton from Scotland’s Belle & Sebastian for a stretch…songs such as “Roots” and “Runaway” are perfectly plucked gems, while “On My Way” could be a legit hit.”

The Melodic, whose young members hail from the South London melting pot of Brixton, are currently trekking across North America utilizing an assortment of exotic instruments including the charango, kora, and melodica. As Electronic Musician writes “these international instruments are what give Effra Parade its very British folk-pop flavor. For a band in their early 20s, the Melodic’s debut, Effra Parade, sounds aged and knowing." Paste says that the band “creates a blend of various musical stylings and spits them out as something fresh and sleek... Percussion shuffles along as the group's harmonies intertwine, coalescing into a soft yet poignant timbre that evokes shimmering memories of careless days."

Early Acclaim For The Melodic:

“The Melodic don't sound much like anyone else in British pop, and their individuality, imagination, and vision already make them something special.” – All Music Guide

"South London's The Melodic serve as a truncated snapshot of the world as a whole. The new Anti- Records signee creates a whimsical blend of various musical stylings and spits them out as something fresh and sleek, but a nostalgic nod to their predecessors…With their bright melodies and bouncy, bare-boned instrumentation, The Melodic couldn't be more aptly named. Percussion shuffles along as the group's harmonies intertwine, coalescing into a soft yet poignant timbre that evokes shimmering memories of careless days." - PASTE

“This band has the nifty gift of blending world music with traditional folk, and making it sound both intrinsically English (the band is from the Brixton area of London) and natural. The songs sound delicate and intricate, and they’ve been allowed to float along at their own pace.” - Detroit Metro Times
