THE COUP ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN LIVE DATES WITH JAPANTHER

Relentless firebrand outfit The Coup will be taking their notorious live show on the road for a series of highly anticipated live dates on the first half of their North American Tour. Dates for the second half of the tour, which begins in late January, will be announced soon. The Oakland group will be performing in support of their new album Sorry To Bother You which hits stores this October 30th."

Spin Magazine recently included Sorry To Bother You in their “25 Fall Albums You Gotta Hear” list, describing the record as “a hip-hop broadside at its core, but also integrates aggro punk guitar and danceable, '80-influenced beats.”

The Coup consists of vocalist-writer and activist Boots Riley, Silk-E- who pitchfork says "sings and struts like Tina Turner raised on hip-hop", and a hard-hitting cadre of musicians. DJ Pam The Funkstress also throws down, but only at select shows. The new record is an audacious new work by a visionary band. The tracks merge danceable beats, punk urgency and the astute social commentary of hip-hop to craft a refreshingly unique sound that draws from the past but never sounds anything but futuristic.

Acclaim The Coup's live show:

"The Coup isn't a rock 'n' roll band. It's a hip-hop band. But they are a miracle of everyday life and proved it at Emo's on Saturday night. I have no idea when the Coup turned into one of the best bands on the planet, but here we are." - Austin American Statesman

"I'd be surprised if I see anything at Outside Lands that impresses me more than the Coup's set. It's always the same deal with this East Bay troupe, led by genius rapper Boots Riley. Whether they are playing Coachella or Rock the Bells or, now, Outside, they always seem to outshine the competition." - San Jose Mercury/ Oakland Tribune

"Silk E sings and struts like Tina Turner raised on hip-hop." - Pitchfork.com

"Considerable musical chops... The Coup throws one fine party." - Los Angeles Times

"Incendiary... Live instrumentation to challenge even the wildest rock music." - Punknews.com
