"I stumbled upon this song and instantly loved the title,” explains, Romme, “And I love his version. The slightly off vocal, the energy. I also knew that I would have to do something completely different with the song if I did it. I like that. When covers don’t replicate the original. With this song I didn’t have to worry about doing that.”
The video beautifully documents a heartfelt performance from Romme and band shot in stark black and white. "We shot this while rehearsing for our first show ever as a band, “ says Romme. “It’s always nerve wrecking playing live with new people for the first time. I like those moments. It makes everyone so tense and aware. It’s vulnerable. No one wants to be the one fucking up.”
BROKEN TWIN’s new album May is currently in stores. Described by the magazine Drowned In Sound as “one of the most exquisite and haunting albums you'll hear all year,” the record is comprised primarily of piano, strings and Romme's beautifully evocative vocals. The album was self-produced by BROKEN TWIN and mixed by Ian Caple (Kate Bush, Tindersticks, Tricky) and Brian Batz.
Critical Acclaim For BROKEN TWIN’s May:
“There’s something about the unaffected clarity of Broken Twin that rings true straight away: the tremor in her proud voice, sure as an arrow in contrast to the lonely pedal steel caws that arc throughout the song, as she sings of a break-up shivering down lonely spines, stark in the moon’s reflection, over a humble, clanky piano line.” - Pitchfork
"Her music is sparse, expansive and centered around delicate, affecting vocals.(...) It captures the sense of Nordic loneliness through a fragile piano line and softened vocal harmonies.” - Paste
I find it hard not to consider Broken Twin as one of the most gifted young songwriters I’ve heard in a long time." - The Line Of Best Fit
"With a pristine voice and a bunch of slow-burning, violin-laden sorrowful compositions in her arsenal she’s bound to achieve great things." - Clash Magazine
