Solo Works From Alec Ounsworth and Rain Machine Highlight CMJ
Two of this year's most anticipated solo ventures, Alec Ounsworth and Rain Machine, will be performing at the annual CMJ Music and Film Festival this month in New York. For nearly thirty years the dynamic sprawling festival has been one of the premier showcases for groundbreaking new music and this year's lineup appears no different.
On Thursday October 22nd Clap Your Hands Say Yeah frontman Alec Ounsworth will be at the Mercury Lounge to perform songs from his haunting and beautifully crafted solo album Mo Beauty out 10-20 on Anti Records. Recorded in the heart of New Orleans under the guidance of producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Replacements) with a stellar cast of local heavyweight players, the resulting ten songs offer a heady mix of soulful sounds and gifted literate songwriting. The Daily Beast website recently predicted Mo Beauty one of the "season's biggest hits."
On Saturday October 24th, multi instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Kyp Malone steps away from his duties fronting genre defying Brooklyn ensemble TV on Radio to play works from his liberating and soulful new solo project Rain Machine. NME raved that Malone's Rain Machine "surpasses his day job for sheer inventiveness" while the Philadelphia Inquirer awarded the album four out of a possible four stars.
