Praise Pours In For Rain Machine
Rain Machine is the highly anticipated solo endeavor from bearded wunderkind Kyp Malone, known for his bass, guitar and vocal duties with adored progressive dance rock ensemble TV on the Radio. With Rain Machine, Malone has created a startlingly adventuresome and personal album, merging heartfelt and insightful lyrical imagery with an exhilarating sound that draws on everything from guttural blues to fierce garage rock, free jazz and beyond. Rain Machine begins a North American tour in New York on September 21 with the album out September 22nd. The initial critical response has been one of overwhelming praise.
Critical Acclaim for Rain Machine:
"An accomplished work... the best side gig since Jack White rediscovered the drums." - Spin
"Malone steps out with an emotionally open debut just as experimental and daring as his work with TVOTR."- USA Today
"As otherworldly as that beard" - Village Voice
"The tunes sound a bit like a rain dance-tribal bells, trance-inflected refrains, the occasional howl-but one that's been fed through the post-apocalyptic fury of TV On The Radio. The result proves a compelling sonic exploration, knotty and exultant as ever." - The Onion
"the introspection is full of hope and faith. The music feels that way, too, built around thin layers of acoustic and electric guitar and gentle campfire percussion for an effect that's angelic. It makes Malone seem even braver, a man and his instruments against, or trying to live with, the world." - Philadelphia Inquirer
"There's an ardent emotionalism here that would make Otis Redding seem calm in comparison....rolling-holy soulful." - Filter
"Fans will immediately recognize Malone's familiar falsetto and guitar strumming, but one of the freedoms of a solo project is the ability to play around with arrangements and song styles... with Malone's lyrical delivery conjuring up memories of Van Morrison's wide-eyed mystic incantations and the melodies ranging from blues to Japanese pentatonic arpeggios. - Alternative Press
"Often when an artist in a pretty popular and awesome band turns to solo work it feels like a castoff project, a way to spend some time in between group albums, but with Malone it feels different." - The Fader
