Noisey Premieres Doe Paoro's Album "After"
Doe Paoro’s anticipated new album After is now premiering courtesy of Vice’s NOISEY.
In the weeks leading up to the record’s release, the successive release of individual tracks have created a palpable buzz.
Huffington Post wrote of her song “The Wind”, produced by Just Vernon (Bon Iver) “Paoro's oft-enlightening music is a refreshing standout in the indie-pop genre. Having drawn comparisons in the past to James Blake, Adele, and Lykke Li, Paoro contributes an earthy, minimalist sound that is simultaneously nostalgic and contemporary.” Rookie wrote of her song “Nostalgia” that “Doe Paoro makes songs that draw from her own life, adding her voice to stark rhythms and thumping electronic beats” while Nylon proclaimed “Paoro creates songs that are at once intimate and expansive, with lyrics that travel a wide emotional terrain between the poles of love and loss.”
Doe Paoro’s After comes out on September 25th. You can hear it now via Noisey: http://noisey.vice.com/blog/stream-doe-paoros-after
Paoro says of the album, “The record is a meditation on time, and its illusions -- the way each ending is simultaneously a beginning; its ability to speed up, drag or stand still; contract or expand a moment -- and the only awareness of what it had been coming retrospectively, or After.”
“ I worked on this album from 2012-2015 and the sense of nature and seasonality in the textures of the production is intended to reflect the seamless shifting of time. I can hear Fall Winter Summer Spring shuffling along, there and gone.”
“The last song on the record is the only conclusion I could commit to: none of it matters because it’s over but there is redemption in finding peace in wherever your choices have landed you now. When I was talking to BJ Burton (co-producer) about the song, I told him that I wanted it to feel like waking up in the middle of a forest and not knowing if you are alive or dead or in a dream and it doesn’t matter because it’s so beautiful that regardless, everything is going to be ok.”
Paoro will be touring North America next month with Little May and with acclaimed Louisiana band Givers starting this November.
