Mothers Release New Album 'Render Another Ugly Method'
Declared “post-punk with a pulse” by Wild Honey Pie, Mothers sophomore effort Render Another Ugly Method is out today.
Earlier this week the band revealed the new music video for “Beauty Routine” – watch it HERE. “’Beauty Routine’ talks about inhabiting a body or selfhood which, upon self-examination, becomes increasingly jarring or unrecognizable,” lead singer and songwriter Kristine Leschper explained. “It explores the idea of semantic satiation as applied to obsessive rituals, especially those associated with ‘beauty’ and physicality, where repetition leads to a loss of meaning and cognitive recognition.

Render Another Ugly Method attempts to gain an expanded view of its surroundings through splintered sound, thought, and image. “Shifting, polyrhythmic song structures and unexpected refrains are sure to disorient in a way that can only be pulled off by a band like Mothers,” said Stereogum of RAUM’s unique sound.
Leschper confronted herself with the making of Render Another Ugly Method; by addressing her own experiences of attempting to validate herself through work, she began to understand the harmful and often indulgent nature of inextricably coupling the quality of your creative output to your right to exist.
"The first time I heard Mothers I knew it was a band that I wanted to work with,” said John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, The War on Drugs), who produced Render Another Ugly Method. “So special and idiosyncratic, it is impossible to ignore their point of view. I loved making the record and seeing them work."
“Kristine Leschper’s voice is steadier than on previous works, channeling Palm in the song’s frenetic guitar and frequent tempo changes,” said WXPN’s The Key. “The lyrics come together to form intense imagery questioning the boundaries of the body and the mechanism of an idea like blame. It’s a step in a new direction for Mothers, but not entirely unexpected from their inventive nature.”
Mothers will kick off a nationwide fall headlining tour on September 19 in Boston, a run that also includes a September 20th show at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right, the legendary 40 Watt in Athens, GA on September 24 and Chicago’s Schubas on October 26; all upcoming shows are listed below.
