Mavis Staples Wins Grammy
Anti- would like to offer a genuine congratulations to the legendary Mavis Staples for yet another Grammy win.
This time Mavis took home the award in Best American Roots Performance for her truly moving rendition of the the Blind Lemon Jefferson composition “See That My Grave Is Kept Clean.” The song is from Staples’ recent EP Your Good Fortune which was produced by her talented young label-mate Son Little.
A heralded feature length documentary MAVIS! documenting the storied life of the soul legend and civil rights icon and her family featuring interviews with Bob Dylan, Prince, Bonnie Raitt and more premieres on HBO this February 29th.
The anticipated new Staples album entitled Livin’ On A High Note arrives on February 19th. The record was produced my M. Ward and features compositions written specially for Mavis by Nick Cave, Justin Vernon, Ben Harper, Neko Case and more.
Son Little, the genre defying artist who produced the grammy winning song, and who The Village Voice recently wrote sounds like “a fusion of soul, trip-hop, and juke-joint blues in a jazz club in Manhattan” is set to join Texas sensation Leon Bridges for a series of high profile North American live dates beginning this March.
