Kate Davis Shares Track “Long Long Long”

In a continuation of her Y2k-inspired videos for previous tracks, Kate Davis is cruising in a purgatory pick-up truck down an endless highway in the clip for her new track “Long Long Long.”

“This song longs less for a person, and more for answers,” Davis explains. “There’s an insatiable craving for clarity and destination. I think that’s why I was so attached to the visual of driving endlessly through the night. Time is explicitly described, but in the same breath, it means nothing. This song references three songs that were anchors for memories and markers of time in my life. Barenaked Ladies - “One Week,” Kylie Minogue - “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head,” and Failure - “Stuck On You.” Out of all the songs on ‘Fish Bowl,’ I might be attached to this one the most. It helped me tease out some personal desires and truths.”

‘Fish Bowl’ is Davis’s sophomore record and first for ANTI-, coming out later this month on March 24. Leading the entire creative process, Davis wove multiple genres—art-rock, pop, and folk—into an intricate, unique tapestry of sound on this record. She also drew influence from a vast catalog of visuals and literary references while writing ‘Fish Bowl,’ including the films of Wim Wenders and the liminal space that exists between outer space and far beneath the sea.

“ “Long Long Long” was a co-write with Oli Deakin of Low Pines,” Davis said of the track’s origins. “Oli sent me a super sad instrumental at exactly the right moment. I was doing a lot of thinking and grieving in the aftermath of a breakup and felt incredibly comforted by this sonic world that he had built. It opened up an opportunity to flow in a stream of consciousness way over a landscape that was far more spacious than what I would have come up with. I just remember plugging in my mic, blinking, and the song was finished.”

Across ‘Fish Bowl’’s 12 deeply personal tracks, Davis traces her very own hero’s journey, from the moment she steps away from her old life to the moment she finds inner peace. She follows these steps through the eyes of Fish Bowl’s central character, FiBo, who starts out on opening track “Monster Mash” realizing the community she cultivated has turned on her and starts to seek real change. “ “Monster Mash” was one of the first songs that was written for the record,” Davis expands. “This is the moment where the character is abandoned by everything that she knew. And there's this feeling of isolation in living your life up to a point where you're like, ‘This is what I've chosen.’ But when you transition into a different phase of life, it’s easy to feel like a monster, to feel like you're harmful to people, or that people are fearful of you.”

Tomorrow night Davis will perform at LA’s Permanent Records Roadhouse before heading to SXSW next week. New East coast dates in NYC, Philadelphia and DC have also been recently confirmed; all upcoming shows are listed below.
