Juvenile Corners Galactic’s Digital Single Debut
Multi-Platinum New Orleans Rapper Gets Behind “From The Corner To The Block” New Track Also Includes Soul Rebels Brass Band Celebrates City’s Diverse Musical Heritage
Galactic – the New Orleans-based frontrunners of futuristic funk – will release their digital single debut for Anti- on Tuesday June 5th. A collaboration with multi-platinum-selling rap artist Juvenile, the title track of the group’s upcoming disc From The Corner To The Block (which drops August 21st) is a celebration of N.O.’s musical diversity heightened by the inclusion of the city’s explosive, jazz seven-piece Soul Rebels Brass Band. Like the parent album that it precedes, “From The Corner To The Block” stems from the idea that Galactic’s hometown is full of evocative street names inspired by history, mythology and multiple ethnicities. As a result, Juvenile – the bounce pioneer and Magnolia Projects-native known for the 2004 Billboard Hot 100 chart topper “Slow Motion”, was asked to approach his lyrics with one uniform concept: Corners. The digital single’s unveiling marks the first of twelve collaborations between the electrifying funk outfit and an array of today’s most innovative MC’s, including The Coup’s Boots Riley, Lyrics Born, Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na, and Mr. Lif among others. These artists will accompany Bonnaroo Veterans Galactic when they participate in the four-day festival in Manchester, Tennessee later this month (June 14 – 17). Galactic – which features bassist Robert Mercurio, guitarist Jeff Raines, keyboardist Richard Vogel, drummer Stanton Moore and saxophonist Ben Ellman – has previously toured with hip-hop giants like The Roots and Jurassic 5. Such pairings seeded the uplifting, thought-stirring and undisputedly natural merger of the band’s renowned funk and hip-hop’s insightful lyricism on the upcoming From The Corner To The Block.
