It’s a Real Gone Europe: Tom Waits triumphs with new album.
Real Gone, the latest album by legendary American artist Tom Waits, has entered the European chart at number nine this week – a position that emphasises the album’s phenomenal first week sales throughout the continent.
Real Gone, released on Epitaph’s Anti label, is a Top 10 album in eight national charts – Italy, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Portugal and The Netherlands – while it entered the UK chart at number 16. Real Gone is also currently number one in the UK’s independent album chart. In the United States the album the album entered the Billboard album chart at #28 which is the highest US chart position ever for Tom Waits.
Says Hein van der Ree, Managing Director of Epitaph Europe: “It’s enormously gratifying that such an extraordinary and, at times even challenging, album as Real Gone can make such an immediate impression on record buyers right across Europe. This success confirms Tom’s enduring status as one of America’s greatest talents.”
Real Gone was released in the week beginning 4th October. It comes as the prelude to Tom Waits’ sell-out European tour in November. The tour includes concerts in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and – for the first time in 17 years – the UK.
