Future funk-rockers Galactic have announced their latest tour plans, which will kick off in their hometown of New Orleans on February 2nd . Galactic is touring in support of their widely acclaimed Anti Records debut From the Corner to the Block, called "a hip-hop classic, welding vibrant storytelling, strong voices and agile wordplay to a rhythmic and melodic genius that is simply galactic," by Harp Magazine.
Galactic's dynamic blend of hip hop, funk and rock moved crowds and floored critics in 2007, and 2008 will find the festivities continuing. Always known for their high spirited yet accomplished live shows and steamy, groovy instrumental funk, the band recruited some of today's best lyricists, including Juvenile, Boots Riley, Lyrics Born and Gift of Gab to perform on From the Corner to the Block, adding an electrifying element to their organic sound. The result was a hip hop record in the classic sense: smart, loquacious MCs, coupled with rhythmic percussion and turntable wizardry, all blending to create enduring jams.
The addictive sounds Galactic have been turning out for over a decade were recently recognized by 5th Avenue ad men. Verizon just licensed the track "What You Need" for their new national advertising campaign, and the uber-catchy party song will be featured its commercials from now until June.
Additionally, the title track "From the Corner to the Block" opens the new Ice Cube / Tracy Morgan film First Sunday. A brand new video for the song will launch on AOL's Spinner.com this Thursday 24 January.
With special guest appearances by Chali 2Na of Jurassic 5 fame, the Galactic tour promises to bring some New Orleans warmth and sizzle to fans ready to dance the winter blahs away.
