Daniel Lanois Album "Flesh And Machine" Out Now
The visionary new album Flesh And Machine by acclaimed musician-producer and sonic explorer Daniel Lanois has arrived in stores.
The record absolutely bristles with new ideas and offers powerful evidence of Lanois' standing as an influential purveyor and innovator of experimental electronic music. NPR writes of Lanois, “with four decades of groundbreaking albums behind him, he remains such a bad ass in the studio, always restless and reaching for new sounds and ideas.”

Exploring the ever evolving relationship between musicians and technology, Flesh And Machine takes organic instrumentation and alters the sounds with an assortment of recording technologies in real time. Initially conceived as an ambient album, the record stylistically references the classic Brian Eno albums Lanois worked on as a brilliant bedrock to stand on to see the sonic future. As Eno remarked, “Dan Lanois is just about the most musical person I've ever met."
Oscar winning composer and NIN collaborator Atticus Ross writes, "Flesh and Machine is a compelling listen. While it's true a couple of the songs evoke the groundbreaking work Lanois did alongside Eno in the early 80's what seems more important is that he's harnessed that same spirit of adventure and freedom which made those records so iconic. Organic at it's core it's the intense and unique processing of the elements that give the album it's electronic edge , and the achievement lies in retaining a sense of spontaneity and danger - Flesh and Machine feels alive and unpredictable.”
This November 10th at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple, Lanois will curate “Anti-Thesis.” The evening will feature performances from Lanois, The Antlers and Tinariwen as well as special guest Lonnie Holley. It is a celebration of music from vastly different origins which exists outside of traditional genres, structures and rules.
