Calexico Announce New Tour Dates
The celebrated Tucson, Arizona band Calexico has just announced some additional fall live dates.
The shows are part of the band’s current North American tour and go on sale this coming Friday. The band is performing in support of their acclaimed new album Edge of the Sun, which Magnet recently proclaimed “one of the hookiest, most-satisfying albums of their career”.
For the better part of two decades, the band has crossed musical barriers, embracing a multitude of styles, variety in instrumentation, and well-cultivated signature sounds. On Edge of the Sun, Calexico find inspiration from a trip to a place surprisingly unexplored by the band before in Mexico City, and with the benefit of many friends and comrades including Sam Beam (Iron & Wine), Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses), Neko Case and many more.
The band recently created a stir with the release of the imaginative video for their song “Falling From The Sky” starring singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez and a giant worm. You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6Ag1kD1zLA. The clip was directed by Mikel Cee Karlsson and is part of a two part collaboration that also includes Gonzalez’s new video. Director Karlsson explains the featured ‘worm’ writing "I wanted to make it more like a living thing, like an evolutionary side step, a creature that is stuck in it´s codependency and has rather few possibilities in this world but still has the capacity to dream of better things. I also had the idea that I wanted to make a two part video on the same story and tell it from two different perspectives".
Critical Acclaim For Edge of the Sun: "’Edge of the Sun’ sounds newly invigorated and inspired as Calexico reconsider their own past and find new music to explore." – Pitchfork
"As restless as ever, the band is pushing at expectations, exploring without repeating. The result is as engaging and sophisticated as anything in their rich catalog." – Los Angeles Times
"It's too early to tag ‘Edge Of The Sun’ as the band's masterpiece, but song for song, it's the most textured and dimensional Calexico record" – NPR
